  • The current status of non-destructive testing and its development in China

    The non-destructive testing industry has a history of several decades in China. With the development of the social economy, the non-destructive testing industry has involved various aspects of people's lives. Experts have stated that non-destructive testing is a sunrise industry with great potential for development, especially in China where the development prospects are very broad.

    Domestic non-destructive testing equipment can be roughly divided into 26 categories, with over a thousand specific product models and varieties. Generally speaking, it has covered most of the fields of non-destructive testing technology applications in China, especially the equipment, devices, accessories, consumables, etc. for conventional non-destructive testing, which have basically reached the level of low cost and good quality and can meet general testing needs. Moreover, many domestically produced NDT products have been exported to countries and regions outside the mainland. 

    For example, portable ultrasonic flaw detectors and analog ultrasonic flaw detectors, digital ultrasonic thickness gauges, ultrasonic testing standard test blocks, ultrasonic probes, X-ray flaw detectors, various radiographic testing auxiliary equipment, portable eddy current testing equipment, large-scale eddy current testing automation systems, etc.

    1. Ultrasonic testing equipment: digital and analog universal portable ultrasonic flaw detectors, large-scale automated ultrasonic flaw detection systems (pipes, rods, plates, welded pipes, etc.), various specialized testing instruments and equipment (such as ductile iron spheroidization rate meters, bolt tightening force detectors, ultrasonic meters, ceramic insulator ultrasonic detectors, etc.), various universal and specialized ultrasonic probes, ultrasonic thickness gauges, TOFD ultrasonic flaw detectors, phased array ultrasonic flaw detectors, etc. 

    2. Magnetic particle testing equipment and materials: universal portable, mobile, bed type magnetic particle testing machines, various specialized magnetic particle testing equipment, large semi-automatic and automatic magnetic particle testing systems, pulse magnetization equipment, demagnetization machines, auxiliary instruments, consumables. The application of methods such as rotating magnetic field, composite magnetization, and fluorescent magnetic particle testing has become more popular, and automatic crawling devices for magnetic particle testing and automated fluorescent magnetic particle testing systems using CCD camera recording have been launched.

    3. Penetration testing equipment and materials: Suitable for colored penetration, fluorescent penetration, colored fluorescent penetration materials with different sensitivity levels (ordinary industrial grade to nuclear industrial grade and special materials), portable equipment (such as spray cans), large-scale automatic penetration assembly line systems, and various auxiliary equipment and materials. 

    4. Radiation detection equipment: X-rays, gamma rays, beta rays, neutron rays, high-energy X-rays, X-ray tubes, universal portable, mobile, large fixed radiation detection equipment, variable frequency, constant frequency, constant potential X-ray machines, auxiliary equipment and devices, various radiation protection equipment and devices, various radioactive isotope sources. 

    5. Eddy current testing equipment: universal portable digital eddy current flaw detector, pulse eddy current testing system, array eddy current testing system, large-scale automated eddy current testing system, various specialized eddy current testing instruments and equipment, supporting eddy current transducers, coating thickness gauges, supporting auxiliary equipment, material sorting instrument, conductivity meter, hardness sorting instrument, metal detector, steel rope tension tester, steel wire rope detector, etc.

    6. Magnetic leakage detection equipment: universal, specialized, and large-scale automated magnetic leakage detection systems. 

    7. Endoscope: optical endoscope, fiber optic endoscope, video endoscope. 

    8. Optical measuring instruments: white light illuminance meter, black light illuminance meter, ultraviolet intensity meter, fluorescence brightness meter, etc.

    13. Real time X-ray imaging and industrial CT equipment: using image intensifier and DR type general equipment, specialized equipment, and resolution test cards. 

    14. Laser detection equipment: portable laser electronic speckle pattern analyzer, large-scale automated tire non-destructive testing system using laser digital speckle interferometry technology, laser material thickness online measuring instrument, online laser caliper, laser digital detection instrument, laser ultrasonic detection system, holographic photosensitive film and dry plate, etc. 

    15. Potentiometric crack depth measuring instrument. 

    16. Infrared detection equipment: infrared thermometer, infrared endoscope, infrared thermal imager. 

    17. Various series of standard test blocks, sensitivity test blocks and test pieces, universal reference blocks, specialized reference blocks, etc. used in conjunction with various non-destructive testing methods. 

    18. Various specialized mechanical auxiliary devices and systems for non-destructive testing applications: mechanical devices for semi-automatic and automatic flaw detection systems, pipeline crawlers for radiographic testing, specimen engraving machines, fixed fixtures and brackets for commercial X-ray machines, lifting vehicles, etc.
